Ten races tonight at Yonkers. I’m looking beyond the obvious favorites where I see a horse with a recent effort worth another look. These are my advance picks, and I’ll make corrections if scratches or driver changes call for them.
Race 1: 8-7-1
#8 Theflyingrock – ML 7/2: He won here last week in 1:52.1, and even from the outside post, I’m not tossing that kind of effort.
Race 2: 1-7-2
#1 Well That’s Marky – ML 7/5: He won two back, missed by just 1¼ lengths last time, and now gets the rail.
Race 3: 2-1-7
#2 Music Hall – ML 9/2: He was second at 19-1 last time and posted the best last-race speed rating in this field.
Race 4: 6-4-5
#6 Howlenthehills – ML 8/1: He’s been knocking on the door against strong company, and at an 8-1 morning line, that’s the kind of price I want to examine.
Race 5: 3-4-1
#3 The Miki Taker A – ML 9/2: He was right there in his latest race, and I’m giving him another shot to turn that effort into a win.
Race 6: 3-1-5
#3 Printville – ML 5/1: His third at 24-1 two weeks ago caught my eye, and I think he can be competitive again from post three.
Race 7: 6-3-2
#6 Mr McLaren N ML 5/1: Two sharp qualifying wins say he’s ready to return, though I’ll be watching the board before getting too excited.
Race 8: 6-1-2
#6 Hazeville ML 12/1: Two wins followed by a close third tell me he’s still in form.
Race 9: 5-7-4
#5 Wehadababyetzaboy ML 6/1: Twelve wins this year and back-to-back victories before a narrow defeat last time, he knows how to finish the job.
Race 10: 1-2-5
#1 That Dog Will Hunt ML 5/2: He’s been close without winning, and the rail gives him a chance to work out a better trip tonight.
